Event Description

What do we do during the holidays to have fun and enjoy low stress celebrations without the focus being the purchasing of more stuff? This is particularly challenging when there are kids in the family. Lets figure it out together and come up with some strategies. If you have kids we would really like to hear your ideas so to encourage your attendance we will have childcare and we will start the meeting at 6:30 rather than having social time first. We will kick off with a fun and meaningful short film.

PLUS - we will do a "bring one, take one" stuff exchange: bring that item(s) that you are no longer using that you would like to see in a new home and take home something that you will put to good use. Things like out-grown-gently -worn clothes, board games no longer played, unused gadgets, gifts you never used, etc.

We think food is always a great uniter, so we will make a "stone soup SALAD" with whatever items we all bring to add to the salad bowl. Comment on this event what item you might bring to add to the salad bowl so we know what to expect.

For the salad we (Bonnie and I) will bring an avocado and some sliced mushrooms.

The salad is sort of on going as people arrive with items to add.

Oh. Then how do you do the Stone Soup Salad? i am sorry my brain injury seems to be having a hard time processing your information...

They can eat while they watch the movie. The food will be there for anyone hungry. Many people show up having already eaten so we won't make a separate time slot for eating

actually, how is the evening structured? In the post it says that the meeting will start at 6:30 with a short film. When will dinner be concocted/served? as with any age kids most will already by hungry by 6:30pm.... to better prepare families it would help if i could give a timeline or agenda. many wont stay as long as 9pm either...

things to consider before I post to the homeschool families.

Sure, post to the homeschooler list. Glad to have their input. Hope we see you there.

I wonder if you are interested in my posting on our homeschool list to invite other families? I can arrange it that it is by rsvp only and not drop in which will help manage food stuff and not over crowding...

I assume you all had the meeting last Thursday. I hope it was inspiring and fun. I look forward to hearing more about it either email me or from what you all present on the 15th.

As soon as I know that we can make it that night, I will confirm and hopefully bring cooked quinoa/chickpeas with dried apricots - I was just introduced to this combo in a salad at a potluck and it was yummy :)
