The Wedgwood Emergency Communication HUB is participating in a city-wide field exercise on June 1st ! Mark your calendars; you don't want to miss this! (Don't know what an "Emergency Communication Hub" is; be extra vigilant about stopping by!) You will learn SO much about disasters and the impact an earthquake will have on your daily routine. Don't be gobsmacked about our new reality - learn what to expect and discover how neighbors will help neighbors after a significant event.
Saturday, June 1st 9am to noon Hunter Tree Farm lot, 7744 35th Ave NE, next door to the post office. Spend an hour with us between 9am and noon; you'll be SO glad you did! WHY invest the time? You can't google "how to handle utilities after an earthquake" if the internet is down. You could walk to QFC to buy bottled water (the roads might not be passable) but you're in a race with every other family in the area that didn't stock up ahead of time. (Stores will empty out with no restocking in sight.) The HUB does NOT store water; what we offer is information on how much water you should have tucked away - and how to utilize water from places you might not have thought of. Without a cell phone signal it will be a challenge to communicate with loved ones. We have strategies that might help.
Make disaster preparedness for yourself and your household a priority this June 1st! (If you're somewhere else in Seattle on June 1st, make it a priority to stop by one of the other activating HUBs. We all have the same mission but we're a grassroots organization so every HUB develops a bit differently.) To volunteer on June 1st, contact email@example.com and sign up for a shift. We've got jobs, big and small, for everyone!! –
