Event Description

Once again Sustainable NE Seattle is collaborating with Meadowbrook Community Center to offer our Annual ‘HANDS ON!’- A Community Skills–Share Fair.

What is a skills fair?

A day of sharing practical skills with our neighbors – we will have short workshops on a wide variety of skills. 

THE WORKSHOP SCHEDULE IS POSTED.There may be some additions, but this is 90% there.

Lunch provided with guest speaker Bill Thorness.

Right now we need volunteers for:

  • making a pot of soup for lunch
  • day-of help: check-in table, setting up lunch, Clothing Exchange area, Fermentation Station area, Bike repair area
  • social media and community outreach.

IF you can help, let us know as soon as you can!

The Fair is FREE. No need to register although some classes have size limits, it is first come, first served. Bring clothes you want to contribute to the exchange and tools to sharpen.

Some of the classes we have to offer this year

  • Make it Yourself Herbal Remedies such as Herbal cough drops, Yarrow salve, Linament (or soothing massage oil), Bath salts to soothe achy muscles
  • Fermentation Made Easy
  • Coffee Roasting – how to roast coffee
  • Learning to Invest in your Local Economy – alternatives to investing in NYSE,
  • Mushroom Cultivation – how to grow mushrooms
  • Soap Making –
  • Basic Carpentry
  • HandsOn Wiring Basic
  • Planning A Veggie Garden
  • Building Productive Garden Soil
  • Upcycling Clothing – making old clothes new again. ALSO, bring clothes for Clothing Exchange. Clothes should be clean and on hangers or folded for display.
  • Electric Bike Forum – how to convert a bike to electric
  • Basket weaving – learning to weave with found materials
  • iPhoneography – making the most of your iphone camera/video
  • Fermentation Station – bring your extra fermentation scobies/mothers to give away
  • Making Herbal Tinctures
  • Microgreens – growing them
  • Seed Saving – How to select and save seeds for future use. In addition, the Seattle Seed Library will be here so bring seed you want to share and get some in return.
  • Tool Sharpening Station – bring tools to sharpen
  • Bike Repair Station – learn how to make minor bike repairs. Bring your bike to work on.
  • Learn how to Plant and Transplant Trees
  • Design a Water Harvesting System
  • How to Build a Simple Cloche or Greenhouse
