Event Description

Film at 5 P.M.; panel discussion at 7:30 P.M.

UUC’s Climate Action Team is sponsoring a film and panel discussion fundraiser for the five activists who shut down the five pipelines carrying tar sands oil into the United States on Oct. 11, 2016. Josh Fox’s documentary How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change will begin the event, followed by a food break and then a panel discussion by the five Valve Turners.

Ken Ward is the first to go to trial, currently scheduled to start Jan. 30, 2017, in Superior Court, 205 W Kincaid St # 202, Mt. Vernon WA. Ken has asked for the faith community to come out in support. This historic trial will address the moral, ethical and legal necessity of Ken’s actions. Please RSVP here even if you are not able to physically attend the trial and you will receive updates. Ken’s statement at his arraignment and a Seattle Weekly article by Sara Bernard can be found at these two links. The valve turners face hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees even though attorneys are donating their time.  We can support them by donating to their legal fund here and/or attending the fundraiser and hearing their stories first-hand.
