I guess I should join this group since I offered to write the Seattle Neighborhoods grant app. ;-) Susan G sent me the app and it looks fairly straightforward.

However, there are some off-the-top-of-my-head points we need to pin down before we begin to write the grant app.

we need to pick some target dates for the event.
get the cooperation of the church and property owner for one or two of those dates
what are we doing? focus? target audience? message?
how much will it cost to rent the property/church?
We'll need tents/portable shelters, porta-potties, seating, tables, what else?
what kind of publicity? what will it cost?
who will we invite to present?
who will volunteer for what?
set up and clean up
food? commercial vendors or members doing fundraising? permits?
waste disposal/recycling/composting receptacles - rent?
invite other sustainable seattle/transition groups?
identify area businesses/organizations to invite to participate.
at what level(s)?

Everyone who is interested in participating can prepare/send ideas but I think we need to sit down together and polish up these points (and the ones I forgot) so we're all starting from the same point in the grant writing/support soliciting process.

What do you think?

I love the pictures of the Portland event- very inspiring. I hope we all feel we can be playful and creative as we plan this event. I had an idea about the name-
Planet: Home. Just a thought.

Did you see the map and room names of the t house?

Wow! These images are truly amazing, who wouldn't be inspired by the effect of walking into that lit-up organic world! What is the website you found these images on? Hey, it took a while to really see the plan. Cool. Planet Home, Come play at our house. And I like the new group logo.

To completely change the subject, I want to apologize to everyone in the group if my expression of frustration offended anyone. I didn't mean to devalue the importance of what people were talking about, because there is much to be gained from every action that promotes positive environmental change. My frustration kept growing from my not seeing the connection between specific actions and the goal of creating our first major event. If this event is going to happen it is going to require the hard work of those at the meeting and many more who will be called to contribute in some fashion. Most active supporters of Sustainable NE Seattle will be called eventually to participate in some fashion, if it is to be successful. And to them I apologize as well, I'll be more patient as we move forward. Thank you.
