Hey does anyone have an electric mower I can borrow? I can never get my gas one started until it's quite warm out or if there is a nice strong guy around (which there isn't right now). I am happy…Continue

Comment by Brooke Richardson on April 29, 2012 at 2:44pm I made a simple tool to remove invasive blackberry that really works. Combining a Japanese pruning saw ($1.50 at Kaisen) and a bamboo pole with a bit of wire. It works like a charm. I use it to reach high up and sever long blackberry branches with ease. It also works to retrieve the thorny branches from the other growth without gloves. Simple, fast and easy to use.

I'm not really sure - I'm guessing similar to the Wedgwood shack - not much. Couple of chairs, table/shelf space, a way to hook up some radios/antennas - the type of space/stuff that the tool library would use anyway, but designed with hub use in mind as well. Maybe Theresa Edwards has some thoughts.
Comment by Susan Gregory on December 31, 2011 at 9:23am How much space would be needed in the tool library to make it a hub?
Many years ago, the RECC was designated as an emergency communications hub for the area, but I don't think the building itself is earthquake-proof. So I thought maybe some accommodations could be made with the tool library so it could serve as a hub (similar to the shack @ Wedgwood). This might make the proposal to CleanScapes more appealing since the "structure" would be multi-purpose and have more benefits to the community.
I mentioned the trailer since the tool library folks said it could be moved to one of the W Seattle hubs in times of emergency. In this case, the communications hub and tool library could be located together/nearby.
Comment by Joann Kerr on December 30, 2011 at 1:43pm Ken, It will be possible for those at the Ravenna ComCntr/Tool Library location to communicate by radio with the Wedgwood HUB, but we won't be a mobile tool library, yet. Is that what you mean?
The water available would be from the comm center. Near but not in.
Wondering if there might be a source of water in/near the tool library.
Also, could there be a tie-in between the tool library and emergency communications meeting location? (along the lines of Wedgwood Gathering Place & W Seattle Tool Library trailer)

8 of us met to discuss the grant proposal to Clean Scapes for a Tool Library in NE Seattle. We are looking at creating a structure with shipping containers or a temporary job shack type of building. The current location of choice is Ravenna Eckstein Community Center, which has a few options for placing the building. We will contact Justin Fogle to help with designing the structure, (this has been done and he is willing) Dave B will research the possibility of a job shack and what the cost would be. Susan will E-Mail Gene from Sustainable West Seattle to get a copy of the grant application they made for their tool library, so that we can see how they worded their request. We are hoping to locate solar panels on top of the building to provide power for charging tools and providing light. Cody B will research costs for light fixtures and solar panels.
We talked about using the side of one of the structures for an informational kiosk, and another side to do vertical gardening. This structure should provide an amenity (our new favorite word) to the community even when the tool library is closed.
Some of the costs associated with the structure will include the containers, leveling and installation, painting, exterior and interior modifications, shelving and a desk, power and wiring, vertical garden structures and a community bulletin board.
We will have another meeting soon, at a time when Justin can attend.
Any additions or changes- please post them on the Tool Share page!
