Awareness

Raise awareness of the inter-connectedness of three crises: energy (peak-oil), environmental (climate chaos) and financial. The purpose of this guild is educational outreach on the myriad of topics related to our local Transition movement. This outreach includes supporting existing guilds or seeding new ones. We will organize films with discussion; book study groups; or just general discussions about topics of interest. As a Transition Initiative, we do not discuss religion or politics.See More

Power Sustainability for Communities

I have had a great interest in alternative energy and distributed generation for many years. I am slowly working on my home out on the Olympic Peninsula and will eventually be self-sustaining out there. I plan to provide my own electricity and tap water, sewer and some food. Here in the city, it concerns me that the distribution lines are all running at or near capacity, and will have to be replaced with larger conductors to continue on this centralized generation that we seem so locked…See More

appropriate energy technologies, hydrology of the area, transportation and road and street maintenance
How do you see yourself being involved with Sustainable NE Seattle? What skills, talents and passions are you willing to share?
I would first like to hear what is current, the history of the org and goals. Then I would like to encourage and participate in renewable resources and new conservation technologies. I have participated in writing grants through NWSEED, and for various youth projects and may be of assistance in that capacity.

Welcome Diane,
..would love it if you would help start up and facilitate some kind of energy guild ("group" in ning terminology).
I installed grid tied PV ('04) & a solar DHW and radiant heat system and there are several others in our group that we know of with PV.

Hope to see you at our 2nd year celebration potluck!
http://sustainableneseattle.ning.com/events/june-meeting-potluck-lets
I know Tracy Farwell is interested in PV and several others that you might meet at this meeting. I would participate, but am over stretched with other commitments so cant commit too much. There are also a number of folks interested in efficiency retrofits (always comes before PV) and several folks (including me) interested in biochar systems for heating.

Cheers,
John
