Well our annual HandsOn! fair is done and more people can now: sharpen their own tools rather than send them to the dump; make their own feta, lip balm, toothpaste, soap, lotions, deodorant, nut milk, jam, tortillas, gluten free pasta and sourdough starts, mushrooms, soil, vegan food, beeswax candles, and pickles instead of buying them pre-packaged in plastic; prune and plant their gardens better; grow veggies in containers and homemade coldframes or aquaponic systems; understand why mason…

Some openings left, and this should hit the news tonight. Please feel free to distribute this to your hub teams and neighbors....
The Ballard Prepares team, a committee of the Ballard District Council, with the funding of a Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Small and Simple grant and community donations, is offering free emergency first aid training to 90 people. Our objective is to have 90…

About a dozen NE neighbors showed up to share in Stone Soup Salad, the film "What Would Jesus Buy?" and discuss alternatives to high stress, high consumption holidays. We thought those of you that were not able to be there might want to add your ideas and read what thoughts we had.
Notes from General Meeting…

Check out this link from TransitionUS about all the recent things happening in the Transition movement across the US. Including our summer festival, Planet:Home. "If we wait for government to make the changes, it will be too little too late. If we do it alone it will be too little. If we make the changes together, it might be just enough, just in time."

I want to send a big shout out to all the members of this organization that participated in our Planet:Home Urban Country Fair yesterday. Whether by coming as a vendor, getting the word out, attending as a member of the community, or helping on-site as a volunteer or organizer, you contributed to building relationships within this community. The point of this kind of event is getting to know one another by having conversations that inform our lives and choices while having fun in the…

Rita Howard said… Dear Joann:
Thanks for friending me on Susainable NE Seattle. I went on the website to upload my picture but when I tried to “open” the picture the program kicked me back to my documents file. Not sure what the problem was.
At any rate, I have several things I’d like to do on the site, but am not sure how to. I’m wondering if I might gt together with you for an hour Saturday afternoon or Monday at Third Place Books to work on these things:
Uploading a picture
Sending out my own friends requests
Joining some guilds
Creating an event to discuss seed saving with others
As well, I saw the poster at the library for the events of the group for the fourth quarter. The December event is a potluck and crafting gathering. However, the poster doesn’t say how the crafting comes into the picture. Are we to bring crafting projects to work on at the event? Crafts we have made? Is it an exchange. I would like to sign up for this event, but don’t want to show up with the wrong thing in terms of the crafting segment.
Please call me if you are willing to meet for a short time. I will not check email anymore until Sunday or Monday. 206-877-3545.
Thanks, Joann.
Sylvan Bonin said… Hello, Joan,
I have a message from another fake "member" that is clearly phishing. (I sent you a message in September about the first one, and you booted them.) Are other people getting these messages as well? I'm wondering why our little group, which seems too small to attract much attention, is being targeted. Weird, and a little creepy. I don't have this problem in any other group I'm in.
The message I got:

Hello Dear,
How is everything with you,I picked interest on you after going through your short profile and deemed it necessary to write you immediately.I have something very vital to disclose to you,but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me on(pauline120atta@yahoo.co.th)for the full details.
Have a nice day.
thanks
Pauline Atta

Thanks,

P.S. I tried to send this as a message, but the "send" button wouldn't work. So I decided to post it as a comment. When I came over here, I saw the same message to you. I guess that answers one of my questions.
Is there going to be a barter fair this year?
Nancy Bowen-Pope said… Hi Joann,
I've missed seeing you and have wanted to reconnectt. I thought I'd check out what's happening here before calling you and found out about the Emergency Preparedness Kits. I'd like to attend. Is there a fee? Will you be there?
Hope to see you soon,
Nancy

Alex Snyder said… Hi Joann,
I see from your profile info that you are a graphic designer! I was wondering if you'd have any interest in using your skills to help make a Transition-related computer game as part of the Awareness Guild here. I am a game programmer, and I would like to lead an effort to develop computer games that would help spread awareness and understanding of issues such as peak oil, soil erosion, sustainable agriculture, and financial systems.
If this sounds interesting and you'd like to know more about it, send me a reply on my page!
Thanks,
Alex
Trudy James said… Thanks, Joann, Yes, I wish I could have been with you at that event last summer. I look forward to becoming more family with the group and contributing my skills and talents where needed. Warmly, Trudy
Jim Mathieu said… Thanks Joann. Yes, Sander's leading a Spokespeople NE, Nov 19. I plan to post it -- may call you if I cannot figure out how-to. Jim
Monica Wood said… Thanks, Joanne. Not only did I find my way into registering on the site ... but also joined the emergency prep group :-) Saturday meeting was great. Thanks again.

JoAnn Keenan said… Trying to RSVP, but the site doesn't capture.
I've written 6/11 into my calendar. Hoping to get at least one neighbor to join me.
Thanks for all your work to keep these efforts rolling, Joann.
