ReSkilling

The ReSkilling Guild is a place to turn to find teachers and get connected, as our community shifts from the passive and disconnected life of the Consumer and activates the need to become Producers of the products and services of a sustainable lifestyle.  It's about a paradigm shift! We are dedicated to sharing what we have learned with others by teaching the skills that create resilience and sustainability in our community.  The ReSkilling Guild helps to train teachers to become more effective…See More

Urban foraging and botanical illustration class

Say friends - I'll be co-teaching a class on "Urban Foraging and Botanical Illustration" at the Frye Art Museum for three consecutive Saturdays in October. In the mornings, we'll be visiting three different special places to gather plants and learn about the social and ecological histories at each one. The afternoons will be devoted to studio time, where Justin Gibbens will teach basic drawing and painting skills. For more information, check out the Frye's website: …See More

Introduction

Hello community kitcheners!Well, this is it. I am diving in and officially joining a SusNE guild! Community kitchen seems like a good one to start with, as I am looking for folks who are interested in canning, cooking, and contemplating the significance of food in our lives. What's happening in this guild at the moment? Any upcoming events happening? Cheers and I look forward to meeting those guild mates who I haven't met already. JoyceSee More

Profile Information

What parts of our mission are you interested in (for example, growing food/food security, appropriate energy technologies, transportation, community building, etc.)?
building community through supporting local food systems, environmental justice, fostering a sense of place.
How do you see yourself being involved with Sustainable NE Seattle? What skills, talents and passions are you willing to share?
Hi! As Keith Mastenbrook's wife I've been on the sidelines watching SUSNE's efforts since he became involved with the group a couple of years ago. Living part-time in Vancouver BC it was difficult for me to commit to much with the group. But now that I'm home from BC I'd like to get more involved. Currently I'm working as a research assistant for study that's looking at urban foraging and gleaning practices in the city of Seattle and that's got me excited about doing more in my own neighborhood, for example by organizing a gleaning group in our neighborhood. My research leads me to believe that there are a lot of untapped opportunities for tending and harvesting feral fruit in the neighborhood. By fostering community and providing healthy foods to those in need, gleaning groups are a great way to "feed two birds with one berry," so to speak.
