Power Sustainability for Communities

I have had a great interest in alternative energy and distributed generation for many years. I am slowly working on my home out on the Olympic Peninsula and will eventually be self-sustaining out there. I plan to provide my own electricity and tap water, sewer and some food.

Here in the city, it concerns me that the distribution lines are all running at or near capacity, and will have to be replaced with larger conductors to continue on this centralized generation that we seem so locked…

Announcing a short presentation for Thursday (5/20) night's General Meeting

(I need to say, first of all, that this site doesn't make it clear to me how such an announcement is to be made. So I hope this both reaches folks, and isn't overly intrusive).

I intend to make a brief presentation, at the Thursday night monthly meeting, of a unique way that I use for reaching out and/or spreading the word about what we are up to -- or what individuals among us are up to. Communication is vitally important to 'what we are up to' and this is a usefully available tool… Continue

DIY Zone at Green Festival, June 5-6

Hi all. I am trying to fill in a few spaces for the DIY Zone at this year's Green Festival.

Is anyone interested in leading a 40 minute hands-on workshop to show people how to have fun while becoming more self-sufficient and learning to live more sustainably?

We are looking for demonstrations of practical skills that Festival attendees will find compelling and relevant to personal and household sustainability. There is especially strong interest in demonstrations that show… Continue

Food Preserver class by Seattle Tilth

Just wanted to bring to your attention a class at Seattle Tilth. It is a teacher certification class for food preserving. I think it will be a great class. I am not associated with Tilth, so I hope this message is OK, but I do have an interest because they are not going to offer the class if they don't get enough people to sign up. If you are interested, check out their website for details. It is supposed to start this weekend, but they might postpone, if not enough interest.
