I want to send a big shout out to all the members of this organization that participated in our Planet:Home Urban Country Fair yesterday. Whether by coming as a vendor, getting the word out, attending as a member of the community, or helping on-site as a volunteer or organizer, you contributed to building relationships within this community. The point of this kind of event is getting to know one another by having conversations that inform our lives and choices while having fun in the process. We hope that many of you came, played, learned, discussed, ate, listened and enjoyed.
I want to share one little interaction I witnessed yesterday. I was looking over the "self-select" prize table for the games, which included homemade soaps, homemade shopping bags, handmade and second-hand books, handmade pies, and a variety of other handcrafted items, not to mention a whole bunch of non-toxic green (vinegar&baking soda) homemade cleaning kits (thank you Susan and Greenwood Hardware). I thought to myself that the pies would probably be the hot item selected by the little kids that were winning games. Much to my surprise, no sooner had I thought this, I saw a young boy, maybe 8yrs old, running to his mom grinning ear to ear and exclaiming, "look at the cool cleaning kit I won!" WooHoo! That was so great! Hope for the next generation! Little things seed big actions.
