Sustainable NE Seattle

Connecting for a sustainable community

See the blog post by another Seattle neighborhood group. Seems like a service that Sustainable NE Seattle could bring to its membership and others in its service area

Hey all,
In case you haven't seen it, there's a RainWise Contractor Fair tonight (8/15) from 6-8PM at Wedgwood Elementary School.  It's taking place by the playground, right next to the rain garden they installed 2 years ago.  More info can be found here.

I've learned that there will be a neighborhood event on Saturday afternoon, July 14th, which will focus on rain gardens, sustainable yard care practices, and information on the RainWise program. As Per Johnson's post pointed out, these types of projects can qualify for substantial rebates for folks in Wedgwood, View Ridge, and other NE Seattle neighborhoods -- I think about $3.50 per square foot of roof surface runoff that is diverted to a rain garden.  The event organizers are looking to recruit 5-6 homeowners in and around Thornton Creek Elementary School willing to participate in the RainWise program, which could be visited and the possibilities discussed in general terms. The plan is to have a tour featuring sustainable yard care practices beginning around 1:00, and ending about 4:00 at the school, .
The last stop on the tour will be at the home of Ciscoe Morris, which is about two blocks away from the school.  He is in the rebate incentive area and has graciously volunteered his time and home for the tour event.  The current plan is to gather at the school after the tour for a slide show presentation, with experts available to answer questions about rain gardens, cisterns, and many related sustainable practices.
So mark your calendars for July 14 and add a comment especially if you or someone you know might want to participate in the RainWise program.
BTW, I installed a rain garden last Fall and it is working beautifully!  -- Peter

Hey David- We'd love for you to spearhead a project like this in NE!  We want to support our members taking leadership on things they are interested in.  Give me a call at 526-1169 if you want to talk more about it.
