Sustainable NE Seattle

Connecting for a sustainable community

I am happy to announce that the NE Corridor (98105, 98115, 98125) was just selected by NW Seed as one of the next Solarize Seattle project neighborhoods!

In order to move forward we need to put together a community board to do the bidding and planning work, but also to start the process of publicizing.

Our goal is to make this an all inclusive process and get the best price possible on installation by signing up as many people as possible.

Please email Paul Higuchi (see his blog) or Rebecca Su at if you can help or want to be involved in any capacity.

Hi all,

We are looking for Board Members to start us up, please read and consider!

NE Seattle was selected by the NW Seed to participate in the Solarize Seattle project.  The purpose is to make it easier and cheaper for you and your neighbors to install solar power on your rooftops, through neighborhood action and the power of bulk purchasing.  Acting locally to make a cleaner, greener and more energy independent region.
Queen Anne successfully launched the program, and Magnolia is just getting under way.  NE Seattle is now organizing for a January 2012 kick off and your help and interest is needed!  First, Solarize NE Seattle needs a larger board of directors, made up of energetic and excited members of the communites in the area codes 98105, 98115 and 98125.
  • attend board meetings (1-2 hours per month on average)
  • help to develop guidelines and goals for NE solar install (RFP)
  • help select vendor(s) for the install based on submitted proposals and bids
  • help to organize local volunteers to table, advertise and promote the program
  • have ideas for promotion in local venues
  • be willing to host an event (eg: wine and cheese evening) for friends and neighbors to promote the program (if applicable)
The time commitment will be periodic, approximately 1-2 hours per week, with occasional bursts of activity.  We are an easygoing group with a range of expertise (none to great) in solar technology, but a commitment to green change in our neighborhood.  We really hope you'll join us!

If you are interested in being part of the board, please email Rebecca Su at
The selection will be made in conjunction with Northwest SEED, which is coordinating the program for Seattle.
If you are interested in solar power for your home, and want more information about how, when and how much, then you can email Rebecca Su, or check us out on facebook "Solarize NE Seattle".

Would love to see solar hot water be an option for this round of solarize seattle...Especially for a small solar distributor like ourselves based out of the Lake City / Sand Point area.

Can you be a part of our Planet:Home festival (Aug 6) by setting up a table and presenting information about this and  take signups for participants and helpers? You can send me a reply by going to my profile and send me a message or just respond here. Do you know about the SolarFest July 16th? That is another opportunity to promote this - even though it takes place in Shoreline, folks from all over come to it. PLUS - SusNE is having a Solar Cookout Extravaganza July 27 for solar cooking, you could come to that and put out info about this there as well.
